“Your recordings are not only thoroughly enjoyable but are also a most worthy tribute to the musical artistry of my father”
I fondly remember the 1993 IAJRC Convention at Tenack, New Jersey, Tal Farlow and Gary Mazzarapoi performed. This CD guitar-bass duo reminds me very much of that wonderful time. Here we have not only that but add the beautiful music of Barney Kessel and you really have a winner. This disc Kessel compositions is truly tops, and my only complaint is that i wish the disc was twice as long. Herb Young
uit het tijdschrift “Just Jazzguitar”:
Joost Zoeteman and Taeke Stol have created a solid, synergistic homage to the artistry of Barney Kessel. And it’s impressive indeed. The interplay between the two is so comprehensive that it sounds like the biggest little duo in jazz. It’s reminiscent of the chemistry and cleverness Gene Bertoncini and Michael Moore have when working as a duo. Bassist Stol coaxes a wonderful horn-like timbre from his double bass. It;s got a bottom that won’t quit; heck it won’t even take a coffebreak. His low notes are never muddy and his high register playing is so in tune and creative that he’d be a treat to listen to as a solo-act. Zoeteman plays with a similar flair, and with that percussive, kinetic attack that Barney had. Zoeteman and Stol mean business all the time and are downright exciting to hear. This is music with balls, artistry and attitude from a couple of players who have chops for days. Highly recommended. Jim Carlton
